International “Good Tourism” news

Here you will find globally-relevant news about The “Good Tourism” Blog’s Partners and friends — especially their sustainable tourism and/or responsible travel activities — plus “Good news in tourism” and coverage of international travel & tourism industry events to which “GT” is invited or otherwise involved. Ad hoc sponsored news posts are also very welcome.

Before December 2019, “GT” would summarise under-reported news stories or thought-provoking feature articles of international importance by non-industry media. The sources were well-attributed and linked. Any content republished in full was available rights-free for that purpose from the likes of The Conversation or the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Can’t say much more about it than every person and their pet has already said — “Good riddance 2020 … Hope 2021 is better … blah blah […]

Why build well-being into destination resilience and tourism recovery?

Why build well being into destination resilience and recovery

Much has been written about including host communities in destination management and tourism development decision-making, but how would one go about measuring contentment, well-being, or even happiness, on an ongoing basis? In this “Good Tourism” Insight, Paul Rogers of “GT” Insight Partner Planet Happiness presents a solution.  Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 global […]

“Asking questions is the best place to start,” Anna Pollock said during the afternoon of the third and final day of the 2020 Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference. And she’s right, of course, yet no-one got the opportunity to ask her any! Ms Pollock may be right about the benefit of questions, but she’s obviously not […]

Several speakers considered what ecotourism might look like post-COVID and explored “revolutionary” ideas during the second day of the 2020 Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference. And, predictably, there were lots of other “re-” words bandied about — Reset. Rethink. Redesign. Reflect. Reboot. Regenerate. … — words better applied to the travel industry at large rather than the “eco-” niche; […]

Politicians and public servants spruiked their respective places and tax-payer-funded initiatives, and industry giants and global consultants had their say, but it was the small entrepreneurs who were the most inspiring speakers on the first day of the 2020 Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference. What matters? Indeed Sonia Beckwith, co-owner of Live Ningaloo, had a […]
