As repor­ted here, Anurak Com­munity Lodge in south­ern Thai­l­and won the Tour­ism Author­ity of Thai­l­and 2024 Respons­ible Tour­ism Award in the “Respons­ible Tour­ism Accom­mod­a­tion” cat­egory. We are at once proud and humbled.

Anurak Community Lodge in southern Thailand has won the Tourism Authority of Thailand 2024 Responsible Tourism Award in the “Responsible Tourism Accommodation” category. Willem Niemeijer, Anurak co-founder and CEO of Anurak owner-operator YAANA Ventures, received the award from Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Sorawong Thienthong, at World Travel Market in London, November 5.

Receiv­ing this award rein­forces our belief in the power of respons­ible travel. Tour­ism should enrich trav­el­lers’ lives, uplift the loc­al com­munity, and pro­tect our pre­cious environment. 

This recog­ni­tion motiv­ates us to strengthen our sus­tain­ab­il­ity ini­ti­at­ives, such as our ongo­ing Rain Forest Rising Tree Plant­ing Pro­ject. Through this pro­ject, we act­ively con­trib­ute to refor­est­a­tion and work towards a green­er future.

We are deeply honored to be recog­nised by TAT for our efforts. This award will serve as a con­stant remind­er of our com­mit­ment to respons­ible tour­ism and inspire us to con­tin­ue cre­at­ing unfor­get­table exper­i­ences for our guests while pre­serving the beauty of our sur­round­ings for gen­er­a­tions to come.

As part of Anurak Com­munity Lodge’s sus­tain­ab­il­ity ini­ti­at­ives, and in col­lab­or­a­tion with the loc­al forestry depart­ment and the Forest Res­tor­a­tion Research Unit from Chi­ang Mai Uni­ver­sity, we’re act­ively bring the rain­forest back with our ‘Rain­forest Rising’ pro­gram by refor­est­ing an old oil palm plant­a­tion that would have once been low­land ever­green forest.
