Red Rocks Initiative for Sustainable Development will launch the ‘Virunga Transboundary Initiative’ in 2022. The Initiative will share its conservation and sustainable development concepts with neighbouring countries following their success in Rwanda.

The Virunga Transboundary Initiative will include communities in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo that share the Virunga massif with those in Rwanda.

By joining Red Rocks Initiative, the Virunga Transboundary communities will share the common goals of supporting women and youth economic empowerment through innovative collaboration. This will in turn advance employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for local communities.

To date, Red Rocks Initiative has been leveraging education and skills development to support individuals in the creation of sustainable trade in art, music, and cultural diversity. It also offers teaching in agriculture and livestock farming as part of its environmental conservation. These programs have collectively contributed to the long term objectives of ensuring that communities benefit from conservation education and ecotourism as a viable livelihood option.

Red Rocks Initiative for Sustainable Development also organises an annual Rwandan cultural festival, which, in 2022, is celebrating its 10th Anniversary.

In Musanze, Rwanda, Red Rocks Initiative has seen how developing these initiatives with community members has the power to uplift the disadvantaged from poverty, and instill in them a sense of purpose and pride.

Greg Bakunzi of Red Rocks Initiative said: “We believe that building partnerships, which are long-lasting, scalable, and transformative, are the key to shared value.”
